This grey commemorative plaque records: Egerton School. The school was built by Lord Wilbraham Egerton (1st Earl) in 1893 as a Church of England School for boys and girld. It continued as such for 80 years, being closed in 1973.
Lord Wilbraham Egerton, the 1st Earl of Wilton, was a prominent landowner and benefactor who significantly contributed to local education by founding Egerton School in 1893, which served the community for eight decades as a Church of England institution.
