This grey commemorative plaque records: The White Swan (Grade II) There has been a tavern here since 1538. Owned by the Benay family (tanners) from 1673 for more than 100 years. Subsequently owned by Seth Land, Blacksmith, who also built Tower House opposite. Recorded plaque organisation: The Beccles Society.
The White Swan is an historically significant tavern in Beccles, dating back to 1538, and was notably owned by the Benay family for over a century before becoming property of Seth Land, a local blacksmith known for constructing the nearby Tower House.
