Whig's Hole

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Whig's Hole as Cave (nil Antiquity), Covenanters Cave (17th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Whig's Hole is a small limestone cave formed through natural dissolution processes typical of Carboniferous Limestone in southern Scotland. It is historically associated with the Covenanters of the 17th century, who may have used it as a place of refuge during periods of persecution.
