Whernside is the highest peak in the Pennines, with an elevation of approximately 736 metres (2,415 ft). It is part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is composed mainly of Carboniferous limestone and gritstone. The hill has historical significance as a prominent landmark and is associated with local folklore, including tales of hidden treasure and ancient rituals.
