Westray, Castle of Burrian may have been a castle, a monastery or a stack site in medieval times, but no surviving structure confirms which. The name Burrian still sounds like a chamber where people spoke quietly beside the sea. What is certain is that the site remains marked in Orkney’s historic record, waiting for someone to walk past it and imagine the hands that built it.
