St John's Well at Westerhall is traditionally associated with St John the Baptist and was likely used for healing rituals and seasonal festivals. Holy wells dedicated to St John were often visited on St John's Eve (23–24 June) for water-related customs, including the seeking of cures for ailments and protection.
