Westenhanger Castle stands sandwiched between the railway and the Folkestone Racecourse grandstand, a forgotten great house that changed from a moated dwelling to a castle, a brief royal residence, and one of the region's greatest mansions. Its fragment of a large fortified house from the fourteenth century still shows pleasing decay, inviting wonder about the people who lived inside walls now opening to sky.
