This blue commemorative plaque records: The Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. This was built in 1796 on land given or leased by John Morgan, the Parish Clerk. There is a plaque with the initials JM 1796. This building was in use until 1894 when a new Chapel was built in Lyme Road. Recorded plaque organisation: Rotary Club of Axminster.
John Morgan, the Parish Clerk of Axminster, facilitated the construction of the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in 1796 by providing the land, significantly contributing to the religious landscape and community life of Axminster for nearly a century.
