Weir

At the time of the dissolution of the monasteries (1536-41) the property of Ennis Friary (CL033-082001-) was recorded as including ‘one salmon (CL033-082050-) and one eel weir on the River Fergus’ (Ó Dálaigh 2012, 3). References are made to salmon and eel weirs on the River Fergus in 1570 and in 1585 in the Fiants of the Tudor sovereigns (Fiants, Eliz., 4738) and in 1621 in the Calendars of Patent Rolls (Cal. Pat.
