Kilmore holds a wedge tomb where ancient people cut stone and forced it into earth before written memory began. The chamber still points downward like a knife thrust into the chest of County Mayo. Its makers are gone, but the shape remains sharp enough to cut through centuries.

Wedge tomb; dates to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1000 BCE). These tombs are characteristic of Ireland's megalithic tradition and represent an evolution from earlier passage tombs.
