Angry men and desperate women threw stones at the tomb, believing violence would force the dead to reveal themselves. They chanted until dawn, but the tomb gave no answer. The man left his knife beside the stones and walked home empty-handed. The women buried their anger in the soil and stopped asking the dead for permission to live.
