Weatherby Castle, an Iron Age hillfort 1020m north west of Ashley Barn Farm

Weatherby Castle is a small multivallate Iron Age hillfort on a chalk spur in Dorset, built with two concentric ramparts and ditches that display as much as they defend. Its western entrance forces a narrow twelve-metre passage between curving banks, where guardrooms may have watched people pass while the higher outer wall rose nine metres above the valley. Inside, a brick obelisk marked EMP 1761 still stands among grass and memory, perhaps set by Edmund Morton Pleydell long after the hillfort stopped being new. The place remains rare, shaped, and quietly occupied by time.
