Situated immediately S of Bunow River, on river bank. Site marked as 'Old Mill' on 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map. The Civil Survey of 1654-56 refers to 'a Grinding Mill erected uppon a small River running through the sd towne [Roscrea]' (Simington ed. 1931, vol.1, 29). This may be the location of such a seventeenth century mill, however there is now no visible trace of mill, the site being occupied by town dump which is now grassed over. Watermill remains unlocated within the townland. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.
