An Aird Thoir is a place of towers and tower-like things, not a single tower. Watchtower may be a mislabel or a local name for a tower shape. In Galway, that distinction matters because the land is crowded with old stone marks. A tower is a tower. A watchtower is a tower that watches. The second claims more, and may be wrong.
