War Memorial

Six hundred and twelve names were carved into the limestone before a bomb shattered the memorial in 1987, forcing new grief into stone already marked by two world wars. The bronze soldier still rests his reversed rifle on the plinth, unchanged beside the fresh scars and added names. People from across the border now walk past the Orange Hall to stand before that wounded shape, acknowledging dead from every conflict the town has suffered.
