Walter Scott bronze plaque

This bronze commemorative plaque records: Sir Walter Scott granted honorary Burgess of Musselburgh 25th March 1799. Resided in the honest toun periodically from 1797 to 1808 while on duty as Quartermaster of the Edinburgh Light Horse there wrote many stanzas of "The Lay of the Last Minstrel" and of "Marmion".

Sir Walter Scott was a renowned Scottish historical novelist, poet, and historian who significantly influenced the perception of Scottish culture through his works; he resided in Musselburgh from 1797 to 1808 where he wrote parts of "The Lay of the Last Minstrel" and "Marmion".
