This blue commemorative plaque records: Lance Corporal Walter Parker VC 1881-1936. Walter Parker was born near here at 5 Agnes Street. During the Gallipoli Campaign he was awarded the Victoria Cross. In charge of a party of stretcher bearers he braved heavy machine-gun fire, and despite being seriously injured, helped to save his wounded comrades. Recorded plaque organisation: Grantham Civic Society.
L/Cpl. Walter Parker VC was born in 1881 and received the Victoria Cross for his bravery during the Gallipoli Campaign, where he risked his life under heavy fire to rescue wounded comrades despite his own injuries.
