Walter Macken

Walter Macken was born in County Galway on 3 May 1915, ten months before his carpenter father died in France, forcing a widowed mother to raise him on an army pension within the city's tenement streets. That loss forged a man who walked dining rooms, cursed his lot, and wished to drive trains before sitting at a Royal typewriter to give voice to the contradictions of Connacht.
