Walter Butler, 11th Earl of Ormond

Walter Butler, 11th Earl of Ormond, died in Carrick-on-Suir on 24 February 1633 after losing half his inheritance to King James I and spending six years in the Fleet Prison for refusing to accept the verdict. He had been called Walter of the Beads because he prayed constantly as a Catholic while his Protestant uncle controlled the estate. Before his death he reunited the family land by marrying his Protestant-raised grandson to his uncle's daughter, pulling the scattered Ormond name back into one bloodline.
