Wall monument in Gardens (kilkenny City By., St. Mary’s Par.)

At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny, currently in the N transept but it was in S transept when recorded by Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 94). A rectangular mural plaque (L 1.1m; Wth 0.52m), of fossiliferous limestone, commemorating John Nash (d. 1643) and Elenor Rothe (d. 1617) (Carrigan 1905, vol. 3, 94; Cockerham 2009, 359). It consists of a panel defined by raised edges. The lowest line of the inscription is now covered over. The Latin inscription in false relief Roman capitals reads: JOANNES NASSHIVS HVMANAE FRA GILITATIS CONSCIVS, SIBI, CHARISSIMAE VXORI ELEONORAE ROTHAE ET LIBERIS, ADHVC VTVENS POSVIT A". X. l6l7. QVIBVS VT AETERNAM REQVIEM PRECERIS TV, FINIS MEMOB. ENIXE ROGAT.
