This blue commemorative plaque records: Sir Vincent Litchfield Raven, KBE (1858-1934). Last chief mechanical engineer of the North Eastern Railway 1910-1922. Superintendant at Woolwich Arsenal 1915-9. Knighted and awarded KBE in 1917. President of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers 1924-5. Recorded plaque organisation: Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council.
Sir Vincent Raven was a prominent engineer who served as the last chief mechanical engineer of the North Eastern Railway, significantly influencing railway engineering practices in early 20th century Britain. His leadership and innovations during World War I at Woolwich Arsenal also contributed to British military efforts, earning him a knighthood and the KBE award.
