Veryan Castle is a multiple enclosure fort and annexe listed as a scheduled monument half a kilometre south west of Churchtown Farm. Its name suggests castle, but the shape suggests something older and more practical: a defended living place where people were kept safe, not admired. The field may have held families, herds or frightened neighbours during a time when borders were drawn with ditches instead of laws. Any one of them could have stood at that ridge and watched the sea turn the sky into a moving room.

Veryan Castle is believed to have been built in the late 15th or early 16th century by the Arundell family, a prominent Cornish gentry family. It is remembered as an example of a defensive manor house reflecting the turbulent political and social conditions in Cornwall during the late medieval period.
