St Ia's Well is associated with St Ia (or St Yia), a 6th-century Cornish saint linked to the legend of the "Cornish Yew," said to have sprung from the blood of her martyrdom. The well was traditionally visited for healing, particularly for eye ailments, and was a site of pilgrimage in Cornwall.
