Melted butter dripped through a wooden sieve, fat dropping into a clay bowl while brown solids crumbled above. Aisling watched the gold collect and wondered whether the woman had made butter for herself or for someone she loved. The chamber had no door, but Aisling left the bowl behind and walked out into the rain.
