Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Upton Castle as Steam Trawler (period Unassigned)-(1917). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Upton Castle was a steam trawler built in 1917, later converted for use as a minesweeper during World War II. It was lost in 1940 after striking a mine in the North Sea, resulting in the deaths of all 33 crew members; its wreck is now a protected site under the Protection of Wrecks Act.
