Why this matters

Upper Buttress is a sea cliff composed primarily of Silurian greywacke, part of the Dalradian Supergroup, formed through deep-sea sedimentation and later tectonic compression during the Caledonian Orogeny. The cliff is notable for its resistant rock formation, which has withstood coastal erosion, contributing to the rugged topography of the Scottish mainland coastline.
