What is recorded here

Roughcastle Tunnel cuts through Falkirk rock as a Union Canal passage, recorded without a date but marked on the official map to within one metre. The canal carried trade and people across Scotland, while the tunnel excluded light and widened the stakes of every journey through darkness. Whether the water still moves or the chamber sits empty, the rock remembers the pressure of boats, breath and time passing without seeing sky.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Union Canal, Roughcastle Tunnel as Tunnel (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
