Why this matters
Udairn is a sea cliff or coastal rock feature composed of Lewisian gneiss, one of the oldest rock formations in Scotland, dating back approximately 2700 to 3000 million years. These highly metamorphosed rocks formed deep within the Earth's crust through intense heat and pressure, and were later exposed by erosion, making Udairn notable as part of the ancient geological foundation of the Scottish Highlands.
