Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U 74 as Submarine (first World War)-(1916). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
U 74 was a German U-boat (Type U 73) that was lost in 1916 during the First World War. It was scuttled in the North Sea after being damaged in a collision with the British submarine HMS E23; no lives were lost, and its wreck remains a significant wartime maritime archaeological site.
