U-1020

Submarine (20th Century)

What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U-1020 as Submarine (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
U-1020 was a German U-boat, part of the Type VIIC submarines, built during World War II and surrendered at the end of the war. It was scuttled in 1945 as part of the Allied disposal of surrendered German U-boats, and no lives were lost; its significance lies in being a wartime German naval relic in Scottish waters.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
