U-170: Atlantic

Submarine (20th Century)

What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records U-170: Atlantic as Submarine (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
U-170 was a German U-boat that sank in the Atlantic Ocean in May 1942 after being depth-charged by a US Navy destroyer. It was lost with all 55 crew members, and its sinking contributed to the growing Allied dominance over German U-boats in the North Atlantic during World War II.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
