What is recorded here

Two rectangular earthworks sit south of Castle Street, holding seven hectares of land that may have supported organised life before Roman rule. Their straight edges suggest people who measured space and claimed it deliberately rather than drifting across open ground. The castle rose later, but these enclosures belonged to an older certainty about borders, labour and residence.

The National Heritage List for England records Two rectilinear enclosed settlements, south of Castle Street as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
