Mairi's family farmed Tundergarth Mains beside the tower where her grandmother kept honey in clay pots. She remembered rain striking the chamber pot and her grandmother laughing until the children laughed too. The tower still stands in Dumfries and Galloway, a medieval house reduced to a sharp shadow above the farm.
