Tullibardine Castle anchored the Murray family in Perth and Kinross from the late 13th century, hosting Mary, Queen of Scots, Regent Morton, and James VI. The king danced in a Venetian masque there with his valet while wearing pink taffeta and carnival masks. A hawthorn hedge once traced the ship Great Michael near the ruins, preserving a royal memory in living wood.

Tullibardine Castle was built in the 14th century by the Murray family, who held it for centuries as an important stronghold in Perthshire. It is remembered for its historical association with the powerful Murray earls and its role in the region's medieval political landscape.
