This multicoloured commemorative plaque records: Town Hall 1858. Opened in 1858 as a memorial to Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850). Accrington Town Hall, constructed in 1858, initially served as a memorial to Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel and later became the seat of local government when Accrington achieved borough status in 1878.
