Tower keep castle at Sutton Valence stands as a scheduled monument in Kent, its thick ragstone and flint walls rising twenty to twenty-five feet beside the church. The surviving upper stage still shows rectangular beam-holes, hinting at a timber gallery where people once looked out over the valley. What is missing has not disappeared; it has become a question the stones keep asking.
