Torwood Castle is a 16th-century tower house on high ground between Falkirk and Stirling, built during the shift from fortress to mansion. Gordon Millar spent his final years clearing rubble and mapping rooms there, dying before the deepest work began. Volunteers continued his summer digs for four years, uncovering a hidden round tower and cobbled floors that still hold the shape of his patience.
