General Keith Macalister commissioned Torrisdale Castle in 1815, creating a castellated mansion that still commands Torrisdale Bay. James Gillespie Graham designed the two-storey structure, while later extensions widened its reach into the twentieth century. The Macalister Hall family has sustained the estate since 1890, transforming parts of the property into lodging, a tannery and a gin distillery. The castle remains a working country house rather than a forgotten ruin, blending domestic life with commercial activity on the Kintyre coast.
