Torrisdale Castle, the Arch, East Wing

Gate Lodge (period Unassigned)

What is recorded here

The Arch and East Wing stand as a gate lodge at Torrisdale Castle in Argyll and Bute, though no date or builder is recorded. They may have marked the entrance to a grand house now lost, or simply controlled access to farmland and coast paths. The stones still frame a doorway even if the room behind it has vanished.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Torrisdale Castle, the Arch, East Wing as Gate Lodge (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
