Tonacashlan: Castle of Edmond of Cong in 1570, now a hidden field beside the abbey. No wall, hall or gate remains for a visitor to touch. The castle may have stood there, cast shadows on the abbey and vanished under grass, leaving only the name to mark its absence.

Castle of Edmond of Cong in 1570 (Neary, 1938, 45). Local tradition points to an area, known locally as Tonacashlan beside abbey (MA120-053001-), as being site of castle. No visible surface trace. Built by Edmond of Cong in 1570, Tonacashlan, Cong South is remembered as a historically noted castle in local tradition, though no visible remains survive today. Its association with the prominent Ó Conchúir (O'Connor) family of Connacht underscores its regional significance.
