Bryan Vault, Kilkenny: a six-foot chest tomb fragment from the 16th century, set into the floor of an 18th-century mausoleum at St Mary's parish church. Fossiliferous limestone, passion symbols in low relief: pierced heart, seamless robe. The vault postdates the tomb by two centuries, so the chest was moved or reused rather than built new. Whatever family or faith shaped it, they believed enough in eternity to carve heart and robe into stone, then trust the vault to keep them visible.

At St Mary's parish church (KK019-026115-) in Kilkenny, set into the floor of the 18th-century mausoleum known as the 'Bryan Vault' (Bradley 1980, 10).
