This stone commemorative plaque records: Old Tom Morris 1821-1908. Open champion 1861, 1862, 1864 and 1867. Born in a house which stood on this site 16th June 1821.
Tom Morris was a pioneering Scottish golfer and clubmaker, renowned for his skill as an Open Champion four times between 1861 and 1867. He significantly contributed to the development of golf at St Andrews, where he served as greenskeeper and is celebrated for his influence on the sport's evolution.
