Blue plaque

What is recorded here

This blue commemorative plaque records: Tollgate. Site of the tollgate attacked by Rebecca on September 10th 1843. The gate was dropped down the nearby Colliery Recorded plaque organisation: Llanelli Community Heritage.
The site marks a key incident during the Rebecca Riots in Wales, where protesters, disguised as women and led by a figure known as "Rebecca," destroyed tollgates to protest against toll charges. This act highlights the rural unrest and resistance against economic hardship in 19th-century Wales.
