This stone commemorative plaque records: Tobias George Smollett 1721 - 1771 Stayed here at the house of his sister Mrs Telfer during the summer of 1766
Tobias Smollett was a Scottish writer and physician known for his picaresque novels and satirical works, notably "The Adventures of Roderick Random" and "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle," which influenced the development of the English novel.
