Why this matters
Tobermacduagh is traditionally associated with Saint Mac Duach, a 7th-century Irish saint known for his ascetic practices and healing miracles. The well was historically visited for its supposed curative properties, particularly for eye ailments and general wellness, with local folklore emphasizing the importance of making a pilgrimage and offering a prayer at the site.
What is recorded here
On level ground, c. 270m S of a children’s burial ground (GA115-037----). Named 'Tobermacduagh' on the 1838 and 1920 editions of the OS 6-inch maps. On inspection this natural spring well had recently been enlarged to make a watering hole for cattle and horses. No votive offerings or other structural features were visible.
