Toberkieran is traditionally associated with Saint Kieran, a 6th-century Irish monk and founder of the monastery at Clonmacnoise, and is believed to have healing properties, particularly for eye ailments. The name "Toberkieran" derives from "Tobar Ciaráin," meaning "Kieran's well," reflecting the saint's widespread veneration across Ireland.
