Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tiree, Kirkapoll as Cross Incised Rock (early Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Linked to Saint Donnán of Eigg, the site may have once been part of an early Christian settlement. Local tradition associates the area with holy wells and pilgrimages, though specific cures or rituals connected to Tiree’s well are not widely documented.
