Thurso, Thurso Castle — Report the wrong picture

Seventy ghost huts still crowd the grass below Thurso Castle, frozen in a post-war aerial snapshot taken months before anyone forgot them. They are not ruins but absentees, shapes the camera caught before the grass swallowed them. The castle towers above an army that vanished so completely it only exists in a photograph now.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Thurso, Thurso Castle as Military Camp (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Thurso Castle was a 20th-century military camp used during World War II. It is remembered for its strategic role in coastal defense and military operations in northern Scotland.
