Thomas Woodgate Monument

Thomas Woodgate stands twice in County Kilkenny, once in plain clothes and once in uniform, beside a map of the island of Ireland. The duplication suggests he belonged to both worlds at once, the street and the service, the private man and the public duty. A memorial should remember one shape, but this one refuses to choose, forcing every viewer to hold both truths before they leave.
