This green commemorative plaque records: Site of Thoresbys' House. The Thoresby family of merchants and landowners lived here between c.1427-1510. Thomas Claiborne (c1557-1607), merchant and Mayor, lived here. His son William (1600-77) was a co-founder of the Virginia colony in 1621.
